will this be worse with braces? and how can i prevent grinding teeth?

It can hurt more with Braces but the orthodontist will usually give you something so you don’t destroy the braces, they dont mind if you destroy your teeth.
About the grinding, you should see your dentist, they can give you things to put over your teeth whilst sleeping, they just protect your teeth from chipping and things like that.
these people dont know what they are talking about^^^
i have the SAME thing and my orthodontist put this glue on top of my bottom teeth in the back and when you bite down it makes it so you cant bite off a bracket so when you grind it wont bother the braces if any more questions message me and i will let you know!
It may not be worse, probably the same. If you get a mouth guard for braces, put it in while you sleep. I think they have them, well they do around here, at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.
Be sure to tell the doctor.
Several suggestions.
Go through a head to toe stretching routine before bed, including your neck and face muscles (rotate head all the way one way then the other slowly with your shoulders pulling down to draw the muscles down. For the face muscles, make faces and feel the muscles pull and relax)
Get in a quiet routine before bed. No loud music, TV or other disruptive things.
Turn on white noise if need be ( a fan is good)
Be sure you have good support from bed and pillow.
Write things down before bed that you need to remember so you can forget about them.
Make the room as dark as possible to help you relax.
Can use warm wet wash cloth as compress on jaw.
Stay away from gum or other hard to chew items also things that can make you hyper, like sugar, or caffeine.
If your Doctor approves you can also try a sports mouth guard- be sure to ask first.
Hi Somethingsovague,
If you continue to grind/clench your teeth, you will wear down your teeth and will have massive pain .. I would recommend checking out in purchasing a non-expensive One-Size fits all night guard.
One-Size Night Guards (night, sports, general, etc.) are definitely a viable option, if you are experiencing grinding, clenching, or bruxism. I would recommend checking out – They have some great night guards that eliminate the issues I mentioned earlier. They are a proven distributor online and everyone seems satisfied with the company. Their night guards range from $5.95-24.95. Custom mouth guards from your doctor can range from $300-500+ .. I hope this helps!

I too have bruxism; its terrible and you could say much worse with braces. I had minimal gaps in my teeth; and I got some dental bonding in there and my smile was gorgeous and perfect then I remembered I had bruxism and I grinded all of the filler off and my teeth were terrible my mom had to fix It; she also fitted me with this thick malleable plastic mouth guard which absorbs the impact of constant teeth grinding during sleep. My teeth are perfect and I still grind my teeth but I wear the mouth guard also I grinded so hard once a section of four brackets broke off and I didn’t even realize it.
